Balloons Activity Day – July 2018 http://balloonscharity.co.uk/balloons-activity-day-july-2018/ http://balloonscharity.co.uk/balloons-activity-day-july-2018/#respond Mon, 23 Jul 2018 13:43:40 +0000 http://balloonscharity.co.uk/?p=5986 On the 7th July 2018 we had another activity day at Haven Banks for young people who have received bereavement support from Balloons.  We were delighted to welcome several children who were new to our activity days and they absolutely loved the bellboating, climbing and caving.  It was a scorching day so everyone was glad of the opportunity to dip their toes in the water and many of them took the opportunity to jump in.  Even Balloons Team member Jo Overton-Pitts took part in the activity.  We’re so delighted to be able to continue to offer these activity days which for some of the children and young people are an essential part of their bereavement support.

We’re so grateful to both teams for their support and so proud of the work we do.

18th -24th June is Small Charity Week and small charities rely on donations from individuals, organisations and local companies much more than medium or large sized charities.  We’d like to thank those local companies and organisations who have chosen Balloons as their charity partner in 2018:

  • Isca Barum Insurance Brokers
  • St Andrews Community Café, Colyton

Volunteer Week 2018 http://balloonscharity.co.uk/volunteer-week-2018/ http://balloonscharity.co.uk/volunteer-week-2018/#respond Thu, 31 May 2018 13:16:17 +0000 http://balloonscharity.co.uk/?p=5937 Here at Balloons we rely on volunteers to carry out vital bereavement support for children, young people and young adults.  Volunteers are the backbone of our charity and we simply could not do it without them.  That’s why during Volunteer Week 2018, from 1st – 7th June, we’ll be sharing how we use our volunteers and the difference they make to those they support.  We’re delighted to have over 50 volunteer Grief Support Workers at present and they’re all amazing!

Our volunteers complete an 8-day training course before starting as Grief Support Workers but there also lots of opportunities once you start as a volunteer such as; monthly meetings, guest speakers, additional bolt-on training, all of which is delivered in-house by our wonderful staff team. Here’s four of our volunteers at a recent ‘Creative Carousel’ workshop, testing out new skills and learning to play our new CBT board game.
