SIR NEIL BUTTERFIELD
Sir Neil served as a High Court Judge from 1995 to 2012 and is a member of the Parole Board and the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
Sir Neil lives in mid Devon where he is a very active member of his local community.
“I’m delighted to be a patron of Balloons. Since retiring I wanted to involve myself in a charity that really makes a difference to lives. In my professional work as a judge, and in my work on the Parole Board, I saw first hand, on so many occasions, the effects of unresolved grief and loss on later lives. Therefore, I see the work of Balloons and its volunteer grief support workers as very important.”
Cilla, Neil’s wife, also supports the Charity and knows from her own childhood experience the pain of losing her father. Her mother brought up her seven children (the eldest was sixteen years old and the baby was fifteen months) alone, without any support from bereavement societies. Some incredible friends helped her but trained bereavement counsellors would have been wonderful in helping the whole family.
